On June 10, 2022, the Electronic Cigarette Professional Committee of China Electronic Chamber of Commerce (ECCC) and the American Electronic Cigarette Technology Association (VTA) successfully held an online exchange meeting on American electronic cigarette policy and market.
Abboud, chairman of the VTA, shared the development status of the US e-cigarette industry: At present, the mainstream products sold in the US market are mainly disposable e-cigarette products, which maintained a slight growth in the first half of this year. The first half of the year was flat or slightly up. Online sales were hampered by postage restrictions, but offline sales remained optimistic, with offline sales dominated by convenience stores. Currently, the U.S. e-cigarette industry is facing challenges from the FDA`s review of PMTA. FDA's current product schedule for accepting PMTA is June 2023. After 50 companies have been rejected, they have decided to sue the FDA. The court has mixed results and will drag into a long appeal period. The VTA hopes that the FDA will control the market in order to respond to the ever-increasing number of products and regulate the e-cigarette market. Chairman Abboud predicted that the FDA may consider controlling the market in a more reasonable and compliant way. Regulating compliance and protecting minors is the development direction of the American market.
ECCC and VTA have maintained a good partnership for many years. At this meeting, ECCC and VTA further established a strategic partnership. Both parties agreed to maintain closer contact in the future to deepen technology, compliance, market information, minor exchange and cooperation in the fields of human protection and other fields, and create a more compliant and favorable development environment for their respective members.
